Gradians to Degrees Converter
Convert gradians to degrees when working with surveying equipment that uses gradian (gon) scales, or when comparing European engineering angles with the degree-based system used in most other contexts.
Formula
Multiply gradians by 0.9 to get degrees. To reverse, divide degrees by 0.9 to get gradians.
Quick reference
| Gradian (gon) | Degree (°) |
|---|---|
| 100 | 90 |
| 200 | 180 |
| 300 | 270 |
| 400 | 360 |
| 50 | 45 |
| 150 | 135 |
| 250 | 225 |
| 350 | 315 |
| 10 | 9 |
| 90 | 81 |
About these units
Gradian
The gradian (also called gon) was introduced during the French Revolution as part of the effort to decimalize all measurement. With 400 gradians in a full circle, a right angle equals exactly 100 gradians, simplifying decimal calculations.
Degree
The degree (360 per circle) has been in use since Babylonian astronomy. Its 360-part circle divides evenly by many integers (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12...) making fractional angles intuitive for navigation and geometry.
