Frequently asked questions

How often do currency exchange rates update?

Rates update once per business day based on central bank reference rates. The European Central Bank publishes rates at around 16:00 CET on business days. Rates do not change on weekends or public holidays, and the most recent available rate is shown.

What is the source of the exchange rates?

Exchange rates come from the Frankfurter API, which aggregates rates from 55 central banks including the European Central Bank. These are reference rates intended for informational use, not interbank trading rates.

Can I look up historical exchange rates?

Yes. Use the date picker in the converter to select any date from January 1999 to today. Historical rates are fetched on demand and cover all supported currencies for that date.

Are precious metal rates included?

Yes. Gold (XAU), Silver (XAG), Platinum (XPT), and Palladium (XPD) are included and expressed per troy ounce. These are indicative reference prices from central bank data, not live spot prices from a commodity exchange.

Why does the converter show yesterday's or Friday's rates?

Central banks do not publish rates on weekends or public holidays. If you visit on Saturday, the most recent rate is from Friday. The date shown below the converter always reflects the actual rate date, not today's calendar date.

Are these rates suitable for financial or legal use?

These are reference rates for informational purposes only. For financial, legal, or commercial transactions, always use rates from a licensed financial institution or your bank.
