About these units
Kilogram
The kilogram is the SI base unit of mass, originally defined as the mass of one liter of water. It has been the international standard since 1875 and was most recently redefined in 2019 via the Planck constant.
Gram
The gram was originally the base unit of mass in the CGS metric system. Though superseded by the kilogram in SI, grams remain the preferred unit for small masses in cooking, chemistry, and retail labeling.
